Safety in Sri Lanka is to keep your wits about you. Theft can occur, especially when travelling by train or in a crowded bus. It is sensible to secure your valuables, passport and credit cards, out of sight and not to leave bags, computers, phones, cameras, etc., unattended while travelling.

Even in public parks take care with your valuables, as robbers could snatch and run.

Keep photocopies of vital documents, including passport and credit cards, separate from those documents in case they get stolen.

Women’s Safety in Sri Lanka

The locals are generally friendly and welcoming, so by and large, most female travellers have a safe and fun time in Sri Lanka.

Low crime rate

Sri Lanka is a remarkably safe place to travel in, and violent crime against foreigners is virtually unheard of – Sri Lanka is still a place.
