Changing Money at the Airport

Banks have dedicated counters at the airport, open 24-hours a day, for arriving passengers to change foreign currency and traveller’s cheques into rupees. It’s a good idea to get your rupees there as it’s more convenient than having to look for a place to change currency where you are staying, and the airport bank rates are better than at hotels.

There are also counters for departing passengers to change excess rupees into foreign currencies – but that’s a tiresome process (you need to show proof of having changed foreign currency into rupees) so it would be better to spend any excess rupees before getting to the airport.

Only foreign currency or credit cards can be used for purchasing goods from the airport duty-free shops (after immigration.
