Can I enter Sri Lanka with a transit visa?

Sri Lanka transit visa requirements. As you may already know, transiting Sri Lanka requires a transit visa unless you are from a visa-exempt country. All applicants must have a valid passport that does not expire for at least another 6 months from the date of arrival in Sri Lanka.

How much does a Sri Lanka visa cost?

The standard cost for a Sri Lanka visa is $35 for a tourist visa, granting a 30-day stay in the country per entry. The tourist visa allows you only a maximum of two entries to Sri Lanka. For a business visa, the standard cost is $40. Apply in advance online (www.eta.gov.lk). Visa for nationals of SAARC countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan) is US$10.

Free Visas

Welcome back to the good old days of travel – free visa on arrival Sri Lanka is temporarily scrapping its issuing of visas online for US$35.00 (or US$20 for nationals from South Asia).

Now visitors can get the permit to stay for one month stamped in their passports, free on arrival at the country’s main international airport.

This adds to the attraction of visiting Sri Lanka NOW. As well as free visas, there are special discounts on fares by Sri Lankan Airlines and reductions in hotel room rates.

The free visa concession will be effective for six months only, unless it is renewed before January 2020.

Can I pay using any card online to get a Sri Lankan Visa?

Any card such as Visa, Master, Amex, which included credit cards and debit cards could be used.

Do I need to print my visa for Sri Lanka?

Please note unlike a traditional paper visa, the ETA is electronically linked to your passport. Travellers are sent an email confirmation with their ETA number. It is advisable to print this email or have a soft copy to present at immigration.
